Drivers and truck Driver’s induction

The goal of this induction program is to ensure that drivers and truck feel confident, informed, and prepared for their role. It's also an opportunity to establish clear expectations and standards, and to ensure that the worker understands their rights , roles and responsibilities.

Responsibilities of a Professional Driver: Safe Transport, Timely Delivery

Drivers:
• Transporting clients or goods in a safe and timely manner.
• Ensuring that vehicles are always ready for use.
• Carrying out vehicle maintenance checks.
• Picking up clients from the place and at the time they’ve requested.
• Assisting clients with loading and unloading their luggage.
• Adjusting the route to avoid heavy traffic or road constructions, as needed.
• Reporting any accidents or injuries to the supervisor.
• Keeping an activity log and log hours.
• Ensuring the car seats are clean and comfortable for all riders.
• Scheduling regular car service appointments and report any issues.
Truck Drivers:
• Transporting finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centres.
• Inspecting vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance.
• Planning routes and meeting delivery schedules.
• Documenting and log work/rest periods and kilometres spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts.
• Complying with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures.
• Manoeuvring trucks into loading or unloading positions.
• Collecting and verifying delivery instructions.
• Reporting defects, accidents or violations.
• Ensuring the truck’s load is properly secured.
• Checking loads are correctly placed and secure to avoid shifting, falling and damage.

Leave and Absence Policies

NB: all planned leave should be discussed with your employer and should suit the employer’s schedule. Report and delays that might happen or that might cause you to be late at work or cause you to be absent

Dress Code and Personal Appearance

• Personal Hygiene: Good personal hygiene is essential, use of deodorant, and clean clothing, neat hair. Nails should be kept short and clean to avoid scratching surfaces or spreading germs. Hair should be kept neat and tidy.
• Jewellery and Accessories: Jewellery should be kept to a minimum to avoid accidents or damage. Avoid wearing dangling earrings, bracelets, or necklaces that could get caught in equipment.
• Tattoos and Piercings: While these are personal choices, they should be kept discreet and professional. Some employers may request that tattoos be covered and excessive piercings removed during work hours.

Prioritizing Safety and Professionalism

• Safety First: Drivers should prioritize safety above all else. This includes following all traffic laws, not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and not driving while fatigued.
• Professionalism: Drivers should conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. This includes treating others with respect, maintaining a clean and neat appearance, and taking responsibility for their actions.
• Respect for Others: Drivers should respect other road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers. This includes not engaging in aggressive driving behaviours, such as tailgating, speeding, or road rage.
• Honesty and Integrity: Drivers should be honest and transparent in their dealings with customers, employers, and law enforcement. This includes not falsifying logbooks or other records, not stealing or damaging cargo, and not lying about their qualifications or experience.
• Confidentiality: Drivers should respect the confidentiality of their customers and employers. This includes not disclosing sensitive information, such as the location of deliveries or the contents of cargo, without permission.
• Compliance with Laws and Regulations: Drivers should comply with all relevant laws and regulations, including those related to driving hours, vehicle maintenance, and cargo handling.
• Environmental Responsibility: Drivers should strive to minimize their impact on the environment. This includes reducing fuel consumption, minimizing waste, and avoiding unnecessary idling.
