Responsibilities of a Professional Driver: Safe Transport, Timely Delivery
Drivers:
• Transporting clients or goods in a safe and timely manner.
• Ensuring that vehicles are always ready for use.
• Carrying out vehicle maintenance checks.
• Picking up clients from the place and at the time they’ve requested.
• Assisting clients with loading and unloading their luggage.
• Adjusting the route to avoid heavy traffic or road constructions, as needed.
• Reporting any accidents or injuries to the supervisor.
• Keeping an activity log and log hours.
• Ensuring the car seats are clean and comfortable for all riders.
• Scheduling regular car service appointments and report any issues.
Truck Drivers:
• Transporting finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centres.
• Inspecting vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance.
• Planning routes and meeting delivery schedules.
• Documenting and log work/rest periods and kilometres spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts.
• Complying with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures.
• Manoeuvring trucks into loading or unloading positions.
• Collecting and verifying delivery instructions.
• Reporting defects, accidents or violations.
• Ensuring the truck’s load is properly secured.
• Checking loads are correctly placed and secure to avoid shifting, falling and damage.
Leave and Absence Policies
NB: all planned leave should be discussed with your employer and should suit the employer’s schedule. Report and delays that might happen or that might cause you to be late at work or cause you to be absent
